A few weeks ago, I remembered this little quilt! I made it several years ago, and it hung in my living room for a long time. But, after some time, we changed the colour scheme and took it down. From there it spent some time on a quilt rack in the hallway. And just a few weeks ago, I remembered it, wondered where it had gotten to. I knew I hadn't seen it on the quilt rack, or in the sewing room for a long time. I was hoping that it hadn't gotten damaged or stained but I couldn't remember storing it anywhere either.
So, needless to say, I was thrilled to see it when I opened the old cedar chest in one of the spare bedrooms in our basement on the weekend. It's around 16" square, the squares are 4", it's hand appliquéd and hand quilted. I think it's high time it got back up on the wall somewhere. I have another little one from around that same time that will go with it. I'll show you that one another day. And I'll show you pictures again, when I have them where I want them on the wall.
I'm a quilter, love everything about this great craft. I've been quilting since I was just a little girl, blessed to have both of my grandmothers influence and teaching to start me on my way. The first quilt that I remember working on was a Grandmother's Flower Garden. My maternal grandmother, Fanny, helped me get started, I was around 7 or 8 years old. I still have that work, never did finish the quilt though. My maternal grandmother, Dot, often had a quilt in the frame when I was a little girl. I spent many wonderful hours playing under that quilt frame, in my world of imagination. And I was so blessed as I grew a bit older to have her teach me the fine art of hand quilting. Today, I still love hand work, but also love the convenience of today's modern techniques.
I have been blessed beyond measure this past year to be able to open my own quilt shop, I've been dreaming of this for 20 years and finally decided now was the time to stop dreaming and start doing! I hope you'll follow along with me on the journey!
