Myself and three friends went on a bit of a road trip last week so that we could check out the NS Fibre Arts Festival in Amherst, NS. We had a great time! Thanks to Karen for telling us about this festival. With Moncton being only 40 minutes away, we spent a few hours in two lovely quilt shops there. We spent Friday morning at two quilt shows in the town of Amherst, oh my, what lovely work. The town really puts on a great festival, with many of the stores and shops involved with lovely window displays. And we were so lucky to meet and get lots of good info on starting our guild from two ladies from the Amherst area who have been heavily involved in their own guild for years. We came home tired, but had made lots of fun memories and two new friends. Quilting trips are just the best!! I forgot my camera, but will try to get some pics from the other girls to share some of the beautiful quilts with you.
I'm a quilter, love everything about this great craft. I've been quilting since I was just a little girl, blessed to have both of my grandmothers influence and teaching to start me on my way. The first quilt that I remember working on was a Grandmother's Flower Garden. My maternal grandmother, Fanny, helped me get started, I was around 7 or 8 years old. I still have that work, never did finish the quilt though. My maternal grandmother, Dot, often had a quilt in the frame when I was a little girl. I spent many wonderful hours playing under that quilt frame, in my world of imagination. And I was so blessed as I grew a bit older to have her teach me the fine art of hand quilting. Today, I still love hand work, but also love the convenience of today's modern techniques.
I have been blessed beyond measure this past year to be able to open my own quilt shop, I've been dreaming of this for 20 years and finally decided now was the time to stop dreaming and start doing! I hope you'll follow along with me on the journey!
